Libraries, archives and learning

The City’s libraries lend over one million items a year, including books, CD-ROMs, maps, music scores, CDs, spoken word recordings, DVDs and videos. Many host events, from talks to children’s workshops; check out the website of each to find out what’s on when.

The largest of the City's lending libraries housing special collections in music and the arts, finance and London history. The Library also hosts a lively programme of events, exhibitions and children's activities throughout the year.

Bishopsgate Institute is a Cultural Institute offering a range of leisure courses for adults, alongside cultural events such as music concerts, historical talks, debates and poetry.

Serving the east of the City, the library.s stock includes books in Bengali for both adults and children.

Finsbury Library also houses the Islington Computer Skills Centre and the Islington Local History Centre, and the new Islington Museum.

The Library has some 40,000 volumes in the lending section covering a range of subjects including Marx, Engels, Lenin, the Spanish Civil War and the History of Socialism and the British Labour Movement.
