Despite its name, you can't enrol as a student at Gresham College. You can, however, come along to one of its many lectures (150 per year), which are absolutely free of charge and cover a plethora of subjects. Its eight professors cover topics under the banners of astronomy, commerce, divinity, mathematics, law, music, physics and rhetorics, but other subjects range from psychology to sustainability.
The College was founded in 1597 by Sir Thomas Gresham, founder of the Royal Exchange and perhaps the greatest Elizabethan financier. It is independently funded and supported jointly by the City of London Corporation and the Mercers’ Company.
