Carl Freedman is a well-known figure in the art world, having curated early Damien Hirst exhibitions and allegedly challenged Tracey Emin to "make a great work" of which the result was her famous tent Everyone I have Ever Slept With 1963–1995.
Freedman opened the Counter Gallery in 2003 – artists exhibited included Peter Peri, Gareth McConnell, Michael Fullerton, Armando Andrade Tudela, Fergal Stapleton and Tatiana Echeverri Fernandez. The gallery changed its name to the Carl Freedman gallery in 2007 and presents around seven shows a year.
