Reputed to be the largest unconsecrated cemetery in Europe, Bunhill Fields is the last resting place for an estimated 120,000 bodies, including those of John Bunyan, Daniel Defoe, William Blake and George Fox. Today, it is protected from bustling City life by a canopy of London plane trees and is a hugely popular open space with residents, office workers and school children. It is also a site of Borough Importance for Nature Conservation. But it's the area's fascinating dark past that interests most visitors, and many choose to take the informative Bunhill Fields guided walk.
