If you were a Londoner of "incorrect faith" you may once have been banged up in the brutal Clink prison in Southwark – not an appealing prospect. Now standing on the site of the jail which held prisoners from the early Tudor years until it burned down during the Gordon Riots of 1780, is the Clink Prison Museum. Visitors can discover the history of Southwark and view some rather grisly torture devices. Waxworks of debtors, heretics and other undesirables who were incarcerated here, along with interactive displays, help tell the story one of the first British prisons. The museum can be booked for private parties.
