The Museum of London is a must-see on any visitor's trip to the capital, telling the story of this great city and its people from prehistoric times to the present day. In 2010 it opened its £20million Galleries of Modern London and now attracts over 400,000 visitors per year.

There are nine permanent free galleries: London before London; Roman London; Medieval London; Medieval Gallery; War, Plague & Fire; Expanding City: 1666-1850s; People's City: 1850s-1940s; World City: 1950s-today; and The City Gallery.

The Museum is extremely child-friendly, with a daily programme of activities and events, and it also hosts evening events on the first Thursday of every month with live music and performances.

It also has an excellent Street Museum app that gives you a window back in time. Give it a try!

Why not pay a visit to Museum of London Docklands in Canary Wharf too?
