Prince Henry's Room continued as a tavern into the 18th century, retaining the old name, and later housed a waxworks and a barber. In 1905 the ground floor was rebuilt further back to permit street widening and the City of London acquired it in 1969. The magnificent plaster ceiling of the first-floor room features the feathers and initials of Prince Henry, who was created Prince of Wales in 1610. As there is no known royal connection, it seems that this was simply an appropriate display of loyalty.
