Founded in 1123 by a monk named Rahere and granted by Henry VIII to the City of London in 1546, Barts hospital has been caring for the sick and injured on its present site for almost nine centuries. This on-site museum tells the story of this renowned institution, celebrates its achievements and explains its place in the history of medical science and education. On display are original archives and objects from the Hospital's historical collections. And two vast paintings by William Hogarth are also visible from the museum.
While admission to the museum is free, fee-paying guided tours take place on Fridays and at other times by appointment. Please call for details.
Accessibility
St Bartholomew's Museum can "arrange wheelchair access" but please call in advance on 020 7601 8152. There is an induction loop for hearing impaired visitors.
