Visitor Information

Open: 9am-4.15pm Mon-Fri, Sat tours at 10am and 2pm (must be booked in advance).

The Whitechapel Bell Foundry was established in 1570 and has been in continuous business ever since, making it the oldest manufacturing company in Britain. Some of its more famous bells include the original Liberty Bell (1752), the Great Bell of Montreal and Big Ben – a cross-section of which surrounds the entrance door to the foundry.

There is a small free-to-enter exhibition in the foyer, chronicling the foundry's history and the history of bell-making (as well as a retail shop selling a range of foundry and bell-related items). On Saturdays, the foundry offers guided tours of its workshop for a small charge (booking essential). Evening visits may be organised by arrangement for interested parties.
