London’s oldest hospital, public executions, rebellion, celebrations, John Betjeman and more – Smithfield has seen it all. Now famous for its wholesale meat market (where traders sell to personal shoppers in the wee small hours); its Norman church which featured in Shakespeare in Love; and its memorial to William Wallace who was hanged, drawn and quartered there – a walk around Smithfield is still an endless surprise.

Accessibility
This walk involves dealing with kerbs but is otherwise suitable for people with mobility disabilities.
