The Kate McGarry gallery opened in November 2002 in a Victorian building and began by showing a core group of artists based in London, many of whom had their first solo shows in the gallery. By the end of the first year the program included international artists living outside the UK. In March 2007 the gallery moved to new and larger premises at 7a Vyner Street.

The gallery now represents 12 artists: Tasha Amini, Sam Basu, Josh Blackwell, Matt Bryans, Tiago Carneiro da Cunha, Chicks on Speed, Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard, Dr. Lakra, Goshka Macuga, Peter McDonald, Stefan Saffer and Francis Upritchard.

It has been participating in Frieze Art Fair since 2003 and Art Basel Miami Beach since 2007, and has also exhibited at Liste in Basel and NADA Art Fair in Miami.
