Of the 11 major new developments on Cheapside, this Jean Nouvel-designed building opposite St Paul’s Cathedral is the most high-profile. The enormous glass structure, developed by Land Securities is “one of the largest consolidated retail spaces in central London”, housing around 60 well-known shops, cafes and restaurants over 52,024m². It opened in October 2010 with the aim of transforming the City of London into a seven-day shopping and leisure destination, not only attracting the 350,000 people who work here Monday to Friday, but weekend shoppers too. In addition to the shopping centre the building houses 31,662 m² of office space and has a roof terrace that is one of the highest public spaces in London.
