PureGroove is tucked away in the west of the City, far removed from the financial district and nearer to the slightly more urban hangouts of Smithfield and Farringdon. The shop relocated from Archway in north London in 2008, where it had operated since 1989 as an imported dance record specialist and record label. Needing more space for its in-store events, it picked Smithfield – quiet (ish), leafy and central – as its new base. The slick-looking new store is a record shop, show space (it hosted Mystery Jets and Lykke Li in the first week) music related art gallery and bar, serving ales, beers, wines, spirits, soft drinks, and coffees. It also has wifi.
