Down a narrow lane just seconds away from the hubbub of Bishopsgate and Liverpool Street Station is Raven Row, an oasis of art-based tranquility in the busy City. The non-profit venue has been constructed within 18th century domestic rooms, onto which have been added two contemporary galleries (its name comes from the fact that it stands on the part of Artillery Lane that was known as Raven Row until 1895).
The gallery exhibits "diverse work of the highest quality, often by established international artists, or those from the recent past, who have somehow escaped London's attention." The flats upstairs host visiting artists and curators, invited to contribute to the exhibition programme, and Four Corners Books, a non-profit publisher of art books. Exhibitions are programmed and funded by its founding director, supermarket heir Alex Sainsbury.
