Over half a million people line the City streets to watch the annual spectacle that is the Lord Mayor's show. Colourful floats and dressed-up dancers join a procession over three miles long, kicked off with an RAF flypast. The new Lord Mayor travels in the procession in a gold carriage (on display for the rest of the year at the Museum of London) from Mansion House to the Royal Courts of Justice, where he/she takes an oath of allegiance to the sovereign before the Lord Chief Justice. The procession sets off on its return journey from Victoria Embankment at 1pm, returning to Mansion House at about 2.30pm. The day ends with one of London’s grandest firework displays at 5pm from a barge moored in the Thames between Blackfriars and Waterloo bridges.
