A solo show based on the witty journals and letters of Fanny Burney (1752-1840), Jane Austen's most admired authoress. Burney's writing gives an irreverent view of life in late 18th-century London and her popular novel Evelina brought Burney into contact with celebrities of the day – Samuel Johnson, RB Sheridan and many others – and led to her being offered a post at the Court of King George III. She eventually married the French émigré aristocrat Alexandre D’Arblay and they lived in Napoleonic France.
In this one-woman play, Karin Fernald (whose previous stage appearances include Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice at London’s Haymarket and West End hit A Ghost on Tiptoe) brings the vibrant Fanny back to life in the beautiful surroundings of Dr Johnson's House.
Tickets: £15/£13 concs (includes a glass of wine following the performance). Seating is limited and tickets must be booked in advance by sending a cheque made payable to Dr Johnson’s House Trust Ltd.
Running time: 1.10 hours
