Enjoy the up-and-coming stars of the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra playing Ravel including his famous arrangement of Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an exhibition'. If you've heard the Guildhall Symphony before, they're always great performers with budding future musicians giving it their very best.
Mussorgsky’s suite of pieces depicts an art-lover strolling through a gallery, gazing at ten pictures of varying scenes and moods, and is one of the most famous in this orchestral arrangement by Maurice Ravel. The distinguished conductor Diego Masson leads the orchestra in a programme that also includes two of Ravel’s other masterpieces, not least the jazz-influenced piano concerto, played here by South African Guildhall School pianist Ben Schoeman.
The programme:
Ravel La valse
Ravel Piano Concerto in D
Mussorgsky orch. Ravel Pictures at an exhibition
