Holbein, Van Dyke, Hogarth and Rossetti all lived and worked within the City of London – one was born here, and one is buried in a City church. They have all left their mark within the City, have been inspired by its places and inhabitants, and been most influential in the history of British art. Holbein and Van Dyke were favoured by kings, while Hogarth and Rossetti were more critical of the establishment values of their eras. The talk aims to explore their links with the City, and the legacy they have left within its walls.
The speaker will also conduct an optional tour of the Guildhall Library afterwards.
