One of the City's most beautiful livery halls, href="http://www.thegoldsmiths.co.uk/goldsmiths'-hall/">Goldsmiths' Hall is home to the Goldsmiths' Company, one of the Twelve Great Livery Companies of the City of London which first received its royal charter in 1327. Founded to regulate the craft or trade of the goldsmith, the Company has been responsible since 1300 for testing the quality of gold, silver and, from 1975, platinum articles.

The imposing Hall is the third on the site and was designed by Philip Hardwick. It narrowly escaped complete destruction when in 1941 a bomb exploded inside the south-west corner. Faithfully restored on the exterior after the War and internally modified, it retains much of the charm of an urban palazzo. A major refurbishment which was completed in 1990 has further adapted the building for the 21st century.
