Brick Lane market is a mad mixture of treasures and trash. Follow side streets (the market stretches into Cheshire Street and Scalter Street) to see what jewels can be found amongst the junk. You'll find clothes (leather is a speciality), jewellery and furniture as well as plenty of items that "might come in handy one day".

Bargain-hunters will eat well while they're shopping too – if the aroma from the beigel bakeries doesn't tempt you, the Bangladeshi restaurants probably will.
